What is a Naturopathic Physician anyway?

Many folks don’t know about the ‘other’ kind of physician licensed to practice medicine in Hawaii and many other states.

Naturopathic Doctors (ND) are state licensed ‘primary care’ physicians with a ‘natural’ orientation.  They study a 4-6 year intensive course of training similar in length and structure to an MD or a DO.  These Physicians are licensed to order lab testing and to prescribe most 'regular' medications, but focus first on natural therapies.

They work on treating and preventing the root causes of illnesses (rather than on suppressing symptoms) so the body can flourish naturally. NDs use therapies like individualized nutrition plans, herbal medicine, physical therapies, IV nutrition and chelation, counseling and hydrotherapy to gently coax the body back to full vitality.  See our page on Naturopaths for more info.

Dr Sally Boyd is a licensed physician in the state of Hawaii.  She is a member of the Hawaii Society of Naturopathic Physicians.  You can also find out more about licensed or licensable Naturopathic Doctors at The American Association of Naturopathic Physicians.
